Description
For your consideration: an extremely rare 1982 Mecham Motor Sport Edition (MSE) Trans Am. This is car #36R. "R" stands for red as most 1982 MSE Trans Ams are white. I've seen printed anywhere from 10-50 of these cars were red. Mecham has reported that 500 MSE Trans Am were produced by MR Racing in Glendale AZ in 1982 and all are individually numbered. However, the highest number I've ever seen is 203. The real number produced was probably closer to 250. This example is believed to be the only red car ordered with the window louver. I drive this car regularly and really enjoy it. Too many cars though and have decided to let the next collector take over in maintaining and preserving this fine example of Pontiac history.I purchased the car in April of 2016 with 99,927 miles. Car reportedly went into storage around 2000 for 15 years and remained in AZ until 2015. As such, I have receipts showing nearly K spent to get it to a reliable, safe, road worthy car. The Mecham installed Holly carburetor was replaced with a new Edelbrock. The Holly will be included with sale. Hoses, belts, fluids, breaks, power steering pump were replaced. Dry rotted front grills have been replaced. Car has new tires and has been properly maintained the last 6 years. Car is turnkey and very reliable. I have spent countless hours buffing out the years of AZ oxidation. Car shines up really nice now. Rear spoiler could use a professional repaint but is solid and presentable. These cars could be ordered with Recaro seats. This one was not; however, I had a set of Recaro seats from a 1981 Daytona edition Trans Am and put them in as the color combo worked very well.
The spoiler on the back is Mecham original and extremely heavy. Trunk does not stay open on its own. Hood struts have also worn out and hood needs to be propped open. Gas gauge doesn't work. Best to track your milage and refill at 150 miles. Car runs excellent on regular gas. Material is off of the head liner - solid backing. A couple of bumper dings - to be expected from a 40-year-old, unrestored car. Call it a 10-footed if you like, but seriously, this is the finest MSE I've ever come across as most that come up for sale need a lot of work to get on the road. Car is rust free. I believe the Mecham "Git Kit" is still on the car (special exhaust, headers, and Koni shocks).
Included is an MR speedometer (very rare find) that has been refurbished and looks brand new. An option for these cars. Also, new old stock MSE emblems - all 5 - an impossible find - never installed. Emblems were provided by a prominent Macho collector in Utah. Made from heavy weight metal and still in the package. Happen to be white but should look fantastic. Will include all receipts and several MSE dealer sales broachers and extra decals that I have. Happy to answer any questions. Thanks for looking.
