An antique charivari /fob / watch chain
Silver ornaments on a silver chain
These charivaris were originally only worn by men, on the drop front style flap of the lederhosen. For the peasant folk it was a valuable symbol of status, worn as jewelry or mascot for a successful hunt. A charivari was never bought, but handed down in the family. Today also women wear charivaris with their traditional Alpine clothing, but they are less massive, more of a filigree-work.
These chains as well as the trophies dangling on them have become a field of collection in Europe, and have undergone a revival in the Bavarian, Tyrolean region, where they originally came from.
A silver charivari worn with Lederhosen or as a fob.
Austrian silver hallmark. - the ring of the clasp is a non-silver replacement
