Description
Janis Ian is preparing for a last North American Tour (see her website for information)! After moving and downsizing, most of her memorabilia has gone to the Janis Ian Archives. She's also picked a few items to sell in order to benefit the Pearl Foundation. This is one of those items. This black "pocket sax" is approximately 13" long and 1" in diameter. Janis used it to get a "sax" sound. Long forgotten, it has been unearthed and fitted with a new ligature (that's the band that holds the reed) and reed. From Janis:
"When 'Fly Too High' became a huge hit, some silly part of me thought it would be extemely cool if I took the sax solo when I played live. (Never mind that I was already touring with an excellent sax player. Never mind that I can't get a sound out of a reed instrument to save my life. I decided, and that was that. Being short on cash at the time, a real saxophone was out of the question, so I bought this, and spent a week rehearsing in Amsterdam, blowing horrendous hangover-like noises out of my hotel window and annoying passing pedestrians. My original idea was to surprise my band with a perfect sax part. Unfortunately, the saxophone, and my talent, had other ideas. At the end of the week, I hid the instrument away in my bag, and there it stayed until I got home and could safely put it with other old instruments I no longer played, like the field drum and Moorish Variathane Nose Flute."
Like all other items listed from this account, 100% of the proceeds after eBay fees will go to the Pearl Foundation*. This is an opportunity for you to get a pocket sax used by Janis Ian and support good works at the same time.
The winner needs to pay for this item within two days of the close of the auction. It will be shipped within two business days of receiving verification of payment.
Thanks for looking and thanks for your support of Janis and The Pearl Foundation.

The Pearl Foundation (named after Janis Ian's mother, Pearl) is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) public charitable foundation providing scholarships for "returning students". It's
funded solely through donations from fans, friends, complete strangers, and Janis Ian and Patricia Snyder. We don't have board meetings in The Bahamas or pay any salaries; everything but the actual tax preparation and filing fees is donated. Our annual costs have never exceeded ,500 (the cost of tax preparation and filing), and so far we have given away over ,235,500.00
in endowed scholarships.
