Description
Janis Ian is preparing for a last North American Tour (see her website for information)! After moving and downsizing, most of her memorabilia has gone to the Janis Ian Archives. She's also picked a few items to sell in order to benefit the Pearl Foundation. This is one of those items.Believe it or not, there actually used to be one big chart for all the "hits", and two music industry magazines that counted -
Cashbox,
and
Billboard.
They calculated their chart numbers differently; at the time, certain records went to #1 in Cashbox because of their sales that particular week and the aggregate number of radio plays the, whereas Billboard might also be looking at where those sales occurred, how big the radio stations playing them were, and a host of other factors. Per Janis: "I don't really understand how they calculated things, and frankly, I don't worry about it!" Be that as it may, in September 1975 Janis Ian's "At Seventeen" topped the Cashbox Top 100 chart at #1, and this
plaque was given to Janis to commemorate it.
The plaque originally hung on a wall in her mother's New York apartment, and when her mother downsized around 1997, it went to Janis' home in Tennessee, where it proudly graced her hallway until she herself downsized recently. The actual plaque is very substantial. It is 12"x15.5"x1/2" with the top edge beveled and it weighs almost three
pounds. It comes with an easel type stand in the back so it can stand on a table or shelf or it could be hung on a wall.
Like all other items listed from this account, 100% of the proceeds after eBay fees will go to the Pearl Foundation*. This is an opportunity for you to get a Janis Ian award plaque and support good works at the same time.
The winner needs to pay for this item within two days of the close of the auction. It will be shipped FedEx Ground within two business days of receiving verification of payment.
Thanks for looking and thanks for your support of Janis and The Pearl Foundation.

The Pearl Foundation (named after Janis Ian's mother, Pearl) is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) public charitable foundation providing scholarships for "returning students". It's
funded solely through donations from fans, friends, complete strangers, and Janis Ian and Patricia Snyder. We don't have board meetings in The Bahamas or pay any salaries; everything but the actual tax preparation and filing fees is donated. Our annual costs have never exceeded ,500 (the cost of tax preparation and filing), and so far we have given away over ,235,500.00
in endowed scholarships.
