Description

Janis Ian is preparing for a last North American Tour (see her website for information)! After moving and downsizing, most of her memorabilia has gone to the Janis Ian Archives. She's also picked a few items to sell in order to benefit the Pearl Foundation. This is one of those items.
Here's another chance to use that cassette player you've been ignoring. This old cassette surfaced while Janis was getting ready to move. No printed material or cassette case liner, just the cassette and a plain case. Just looking at the song titles tells you this is a very rare cassette. Why? Here's the skinny from Janis:
"My manager at the time was Simon Renshaw (who went on to mastermind The Dixie Chicks' career). He was terrified that because I'd wanted to do a jazz album since I was sixteen, I would take the opportunity a decent budget and A-list team of players afforded me and make good on my threat. John Jennings, my co-producer, and I passed our down time in the studio listening back to players like Steve Gadd and Willie Weeks, and making up parodies of the songs. Then, we decided to hold a fake 'listen-back party' and invite Simon. We had some posters,T-shirts, and cassettes made up, decorated the studio with big pictures of our fake album cover, and invited Simon to the 'Very Private Party'. We actually had him going for a while!!"
The original songs these are based on: Take No Prisoners, Tenderness, No One Else Like You, Davy, When the Silence Calls, Take Me Walking In the Rain, Berlin, and Stolen Fire.
The songs are:
Side A                                                Side B
Take No Kissingers                             Take Me Walking In Bahrain
Genderless                                         Berlitz
No One Else Likes You                         Stolen Tires
Lazy
When Simon Calls
Like all other items listed from this account, 100% of the proceeds after eBay fees will go to the Pearl Foundation*.  This is an opportunity for you to get a rare cassette and support good works at the same time.
The winner needs to pay for this item within two days of the close of the auction.  It will be shipped within two business days of receiving verification of payment.
Thanks for looking and thanks for your support of Janis and The Pearl Foundation.

The Pearl Foundation (named after Janis Ian's mother, Pearl) is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) public charitable foundation providing scholarships for "returning students". It's
funded solely through donations from fans, friends, complete strangers, and Janis Ian and Patricia Snyder. We don't have board meetings in The Bahamas or pay any salaries; everything but the actual tax preparation and filing fees is donated. Our annual costs have never exceeded ,500 (the cost of tax preparation and filing), and so far we have given away over ,235,500.00
in endowed scholarships.
