Description

Janis Ian is preparing for a last North American Tour (see her website for information)! After moving and downsizing, most of her memorabilia has gone to the Janis Ian Archives. She's also picked a few items to sell in order to benefit the Pearl Foundation. This is one of those items.
It's amazing what you find when you're down-sizing for a move! In this case, Janis went through boxes and boxes of files, and found three promotional kits dating from the early 90's, created when the album
Breaking Silence
was released. Her first album in a decade, Janis and her wife had taken a second mortgage on their home in order to finance it. No US company was willing to take on international distribution as well, so the album came out on Morgan Creek in North America, and Sony Holland in Europe - honest, no one else was interested! Janis put together the press kit herself, with photos taken by Lisa Powers during the album cover shoot, and descriptions of the songs by Janis "because I couldn't afford anyone else to write a biography for the package." They put everything into inexpensive white folders and shipped it off with a lot of hope - justified, as it turns out. The album, co-produced and engineered by Jeff Balding, received Grammy nominations for "Best Folk Album" and "Best engineered non-classical", and to this day, is still used as a tester by audiophile companies!
Each of the three promo kits we'll be offering features a different photograph, which Janis says "were in the hope that one of them would be used by a newspaper or magazine!"
Like all other items listed from this account, 100% of the proceeds after eBay fees will go to the Pearl Foundation*.  This is an opportunity for you to get a vintage Janis Ian promo kit and support good works at the same time.
The winner needs to pay for this item within two days of the close of the auction.  It will be shipped within two business days of receiving verification of payment.
Thanks for looking and thanks for your support of Janis and The Pearl Foundation.

The Pearl Foundation (named after Janis Ian's mother, Pearl) is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) public charitable foundation providing scholarships for "returning students". It's
funded solely through donations from fans, friends, complete strangers, and Janis Ian and Patricia Snyder. We don't have board meetings in The Bahamas or pay any salaries; everything but the actual tax preparation and filing fees is donated. Our annual costs have never exceeded ,500 (the cost of tax preparation and filing), and so far we have given away over ,235,500.00
in endowed scholarships.
