Description

Janis Ian is preparing for a last North American Tour (see her website for information)! After moving and downsizing, most of her memorabilia has gone to the Janis Ian Archives. She's also picked a few items to sell in order to benefit the Pearl Foundation. This is one of those items.
From Janis: "Well, Carnegie Hall is iconic, isn't it? Especially if you're a performer in the Northeast, it's one of the goals. I'd performed there as a child with Pete Seeger, when our camp got to sing a song at one of his shows, but I'd always dreamed of playing it myself. I knew Jesse Colin Young from when I worked on
Present Company
with Jerry Corbett in Marin, and I'd known Tom Rush since I was a teenager, so it seemed like a good bill. I was really naive; I expected the back stage would be this incredibly beautiful, luxurious place, like you see in the movies. Instead, it was pretty dingy, everything was really worn out and faded, even the staff seemed faded! Of course, as I got older and played more vintage theaters, I realized part of the wonderfulness was the old furnishings, and I would get the staff to share fabulous stories, but at twenty-one, it was the first iconic theater I'd ever played, and things like that surprised me. Still, when I walked down the backstage steps to go on for my performance, it really hit home that I was walking down the
exact
same steps Billie Holiday and Edith Piaf had walked down to get onstage. And
that
was amazing."
Like all other items listed from this account, 100% of the proceeds after eBay fees will go to the Pearl Foundation*.  This is an opportunity for you to get a signed Vintage Carnegie Hall concert program and support good works at the same time.
The winner needs to pay for this item within two days of the close of the auction.  It will be shipped within two business days of receiving verification of payment.
Thanks for looking and thanks for your support of Janis and The Pearl Foundation.
