Description
Janis Ian is preparing for a last North American Tour (see her website for information)! After moving and downsizing, most of her memorabilia has gone to the Janis Ian Archives. She's also picked a few items to sell in order to benefit the Pearl Foundation. This is one of those items. After Janis' mother Pearl passed, Janis was tasked with being her executor. Going through the bedroom closet, she found a treasure trove of cassettes, postcards and letters, vinyl albums, photos and posters her mother had kept. It brought her to tears, realizing that all those years, Pearl had kept these things close to her.
So, do you even remember cassettes? Do you still drive a car with a cassette player? If you've still got the ability to play cassettes, you're in for a very rare vintage treat. Dating from the 90's, when her mother
was still running the "Janis Ian fan club", these were part of a cassette-a-month membership deal. For a very small membership fee, you received a cassette a month of unreleased or about-to-be released material, usually work tapes (the first time Janis sang the song into a cassette player or in the studio, or made a demo of it). This is one volume of those work tapes (more to follow so get that cassette player or tape deck all spiffed up and ready to work). Please look at the pictures to see the variety of songs on each tape.
From Janis: "I'd still rather listen to a cassette than a CD, personally. At least with a cassette, you're still listening to something on tape. CD's wear my ears out. Cassettes? Never!"
Like all other items listed from this account, 100% of the proceeds after eBay fees will go to the Pearl Foundation*. This is an opportunity for you to get a rare cassette work tapes and support good works at the same time.
The winner needs to pay for this item within two days of the close of the auction. It will be shipped within two business days of receiving verification of payment.
Thanks for looking and thanks for your support of Janis and The Pearl Foundation.

The Pearl Foundation (named after Janis Ian's mother, Pearl) is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) public charitable foundation providing scholarships for "returning students". It's
funded solely through donations from fans, friends, complete strangers, and Janis Ian and Patricia Snyder. We don't have board meetings in The Bahamas or pay any salaries; everything but the actual tax preparation and filing fees is donated. Our annual costs have never exceeded ,500 (the cost of tax preparation and filing), and so far we have given away over ,235,500.00
