Rare Civil War Era B&O Railroad Stock Certificate Signed by Lincoln's Confidante

We have, for sale, some excellent original examples of Civil War railroad history!  These Baltimore & Ohio Railroad stock certificates are quite a find and we are happy to bring them to the collector's market!  Each one is hand signed by the president of the B&O Railroad, Abraham Lincoln's friend and personal confidante, John Work Garrett.  He often accompanied Lincoln to battlefields in Maryland during the Civil War.  When the War broke out, Garrett was a originally Southern sympathizer and considered his railroad a "southern railroad."  However, seeing Confederate troops destroying his railroad, he started siding with the Union.  Garrett's railroad transported thousands of troops, munitions, and supplies during the Civil War.  This was a great aide to the Union Army.  Lincoln once commended Garrett as being "The right arm of the Federal Government in the aid he rendered the authorities in preventing the Confederates from seizing Washington and securing its retention as the Capital of the Loyal States."  After the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, Garrett organized his funeral train which brought Lincoln's body back to Springfield, Illinois.  Garrett was president of the B&O Railroad from 1858 until his death in 1884.
Each certificate will date between 1860 and 1865.  They will all bear the signature of B&O Railroad president, John Work Garrett, and will be in good condition.  There may be some foxing, ink stains and fold lines present.  Some will bear cancellation stamps and they will have holes punched across the signatures.  Dates will be luck of the draw.  Some certificates may pre or post date the actual recognized dates of the Civil War by a few months, however most of them are 1861.  These certificates measure approximately 8" x 6".
